Albert Bein has been fascinated with photography since his early
teens, beginning with typical snapshots of family and friends, and
numerous slide shows commemorating family vacations.
After graduating from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in
German Literature and Art History (which foreshadowed his
later-in-life experiences in Fredericksburg), he followed a
technical career path in computer science. While working for several
Fortune 500 companies, he continued his work with photography as
both a hobby, and as an obsession. Recently, he has utilized his
extensive experience with computer programming, digital imaging and
quality analysis to facilitate his transition from traditional to
digital photography. He currently uses a series of high resolution
digital cameras and lenses from Minolta/Sony, Olympus and Nikon,
backed up by the latest imaging software from Adobe and archival
printing technologies currently offered by Epson and Canon.

Since moving to Fredericksburg, Albert has become fascinated with
the Hill Country landscape and rich heritage, and he strives to
bring its unique beauty to life in his photographs. He is currently
serving as an Executive Board member of both the Fredericksburg
based Art Guild and “Der FotoKlub”. Through these associations, he
has been developing his photography skills even further by
incorporating some of the more traditional, as well as leading edge
digital imaging techniques that are being utilized by these groups
of highly regarded Hill Country artists and photographers. As a
result, his framed and unframed prints are being sought by visitors
to Fredericksburg and local residents alike for their fine art
qualities which make them sometimes look more like paintings than
photographs.
Albert received the “Best Art Exhibit” award at the 2004 Gillespie
County Fair for his photo of hay bales outlined by a setting Texas
sun. He has also won first place awards at the 2005, 2007 and 2008
“Faces and Places of Gillespie County” juried art shows. Two of his
First Place awards were received for a revealing photo of a local
resident on his ranch not too far from Luckenbach, and for an image
of an historic Fredericksburg cemetery captured under dramatic
lighting conditions.

When he is not out working on the countryside or processing his photos
on rainy days, he practices his art on his family of cats, who are
getting somewhat tired of posing for him.
