Melissa Starry

In December of 2000, painting and photography became full-time addictions, each lending itself to the other. Contrasts and narratives are found in her works.

She owns and operates Starry's Studio, a portrait photography studio.  For the past ten years she has assisted internationally known artist, Joyce Combs. Melissa's narrative style has developed into a mixed media format; incorporating printmaking, acrylics, oil pastels, collage, found objects and photography into textured paper or canvas. "Creativity is an exciting process: an idea can evolve over many years. Available mediums and subject matter are endless."

Melissa has been in nearly 50 group shows, and her awards include:
"Clip Notes on Creek Street" ~ Best of Show
2011 Gillespie County Faces and Places sponsored by Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance and Fredericksburg Art Guild.
"The Light" ~ Best of Show
2006 Red Alert sponsored by Hill Country Arts Foundation.

Artist Statement:
I like to use various mediums to "build" a picture. The process of layering adds interest, drawing the viewer in to see more than just the subject matter. My pictures are primarily narrative, and this show is a story-wall retrospective about personal milestones, memories, dreams and some nonsense. There is a little bit of hope thrown in. Some might call it a bucket list. I call it a road trip. I am enjoying the ride and the work, and I believe the exhibit will bring big smiles to many and that they will "enjoy the view".
